Fatima Mawas

Writer/Director

A fresh and daring young Australian filmmaker born and raised in Sydney’s Western suburb of Lakemba. Fatima’s films take on the themes of identity, racism, war, sexuality, religion and spirituality. Having graduated from both the Victorian College of the Arts and the Australian Film Television and Radio School, she has written and directed a number of short films and music videos which have screened locally and internationally. Fatima was selected for Screen Australia’s Developing the Developers 2017 program. She wants to tell challenging, entertaining and thought-provoking stories reflective of true Australian culture featuring Muslim protagonists.
